Ifeanyi Okowa humbles Great Ogboru, O’tega Emerhor to emerge Delta Governor

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of last Saturday’s governorship election in Delta State.

The result was announced this morning at INEC’s headquarters in Okpanam Road, Asaba, by the Returning Officer, Prof. Bio Nyananyo of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

Senator Okowa was declared winner with a total of 724,680 votes, humbling Chief Great Ogboru of the Labour Party, who got 130,028 votes, and Chief O’tega Emerhor of All Progressives Congress (APC), with 67,825 votes. Okowa won in 21 local government areas out of the 25 in the state while Ogboru got the remaining four LGAs.

“Okowa, having won the highest votes in the elections, which was contested and having satisfied the provisions of the law is hereby returned as winner and governorship-elect for Delta,” Prof. Nyananyo declared.

He announced that 18 political parties participated in the governorship election while there were 2, 044,372 registered voters and 1,017,796 accredited voters. He said the exercise recorded 931,808 valid votes while 24,913 ballots were rejected.
