Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan is about to make history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to be elected a State Governor.
Reports from Taraba State say Jumai, the first female governorship candidate from the entire northern part of the country, won yesterday’s election. There is no official yet but News Express learnt that the woman fondly called Mama Taraba is leading in the vote count.
Senator Al-Hassan ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Her first major political breakthrough came when she was elected Senator for the Taraba North constituency of Taraba State in the April 2011 Federal elections. She ran on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform but later defected to APC.
Though the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) is yet to officially announce her winner, Nigerians are already celebrating Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan’s feat on social media.
