Ebonyi fixes October 5 for school reopening on stage basis

The Ebonyi State Government has fixed October 5, 2020 for reopening of schools across the state.

The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima, announced this on Thursday after the state Executive Council Meeting held at new Government House in Abakaliki.

According to the commissioner, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions are to reopen on the same day.

Chima further noted that in keeping COVID-19 protocols there will be staggering of classes.

The commissioner added that nursery and crèche are excluded from reopening this year.

“The Honorable Commissioner for Education in a memo presented in EXCO today for reopening of all school: primary, secondary and tertiary, the EXCO approved 5th October 2020.

“There will be staggering of classes in two sessions (morning 8 am - 12 pm and Afternoon 12:15 – 4.15 pm) in order to maintain social distancing,” he said.

News Express reports that schools in the state were shut down in March as a result of Coronavirus pandemic.
