When some time ago, the Director General, Asaba Capital Territory Development Agency, ACTDA, Mrs. Onyemaechi Mrakpor, said by the grace of God, she wanted to be remembered as the woman that made Asaba Capital Territory beautiful, she did not envisaged she would restore life to the family members of a triplet.

“Not just beautiful, but someone that brought sanity to the Capital Territory, Asaba is now beautiful and people now see it as an enabling environment, beautiful and clean for people to relax and even give birth to triplets. You do not relax on dustbin or filthy gutters but because the place is clean now, people are asking me, would the government be willing to provide a land for recreational centers?

The administration, structure, function, power of the board and ACTDA, other matters connected there with the law of the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) is backed with the Delta State Capital Territory Law which took effect 3rd June, 2015.

The beauty of Asaba and its environs, especially Okpanam Community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state further came to fore on Monday, September 7, 2020 when a couple, Mr. Chijioke Gabriel Kurue and Mrs. Maryann Kurue gave birth to a set of triplets within the State Capital Territory which comprises of Oshimili South, Oshimili North, Aniocha South and Aniocha North, Asaba and its environs.

People were expecting them to roll out the drums for celebration but the reverse was the case as they cried out for assistance and exposing the burden they would face to care for the triplets. Hope and luck however came their way when Mrakpor made food presentations, clothing materials and other items to the family of the triplets in addition to her two children.

Besides the presentations, Mrakpor, a mother of Triplets, former member of the Delta state House of Assembly where she represented Aniocha South, a one-time member of House of Representatives, in the presence of her triplets who came with their mother to show their love, also gave the couple N200,000 and offered the husband an appointment as a Marshal with the Capital Territory Development Agency.

The presentation happened to be the birthday of her husband, Barr Peter Mrakpor, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Delta state. Kurue, 33, and his wife, Maryann are from Obomkpa and Issele Uku, the two communities are in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state. Kure studied Business Administration from Federal Polytechnic, Nekede and graduated in 2013. He started the operation of “Okada” transport in 2018 after a failed search for job. The names of the tree children are Chimamanda, Chinaza and Chinonso. They are doing well.

According to the couple, their plan was to have only three chil¬dren with the third pregnancy which resulted in the triplets. Fortunately and unfortunately, the coming of the triplets was more than what they bargained for and the least they expected knowing fully their inability to care for them. However, their joy knew no bound when Mrakpor noticed their plight after delivering the triplet on Sunday. The highly elated mother said though it is stressful to take care of triplets, citing herself as example, she, however, conclude in her view that “It is a blessing from the Almighty God”.

She said she was moved to assist the family knowing that she had passed through the challenge of raising triplets even though she was a state lawmaker at the time she delivered her triplets. According to her, they were delighted to see the children through various complimentary comments when she carried the triplets.

Expressing the joy of having triplets after they have grown, Mrakpor used her triplets to express her happiness. She said: “Look at my children, anywhere they are, it is always joy, there is no regret. The children will be bringing you surprises all the time. It is in celebration of the birthday of husband that we are here. Since you said you have HND, you can join us at the Capital Territory as one of our marshals.”

In an interview after the presentation, she said: “Multiple births mean wonderful gift from the Almighty God. But it has a way of unsettling the person, especially the mother. For the next three years, she has to be tied to them. They are quite delicate. In doing that, she cannot go out to sell as a petty trader to support her husband.

“Secondly, the husband is a Motorcycle Rider, “Okada Rider”, I don’t know how much he makes from riding Okada that will be able to take care of the children. For the offer we have for him to join us at the capital territory, we thank God for it but it is still not enough. Any way you can assist them please do assist them. The baby food we brought are just 24, they may not last more than one month. The mother cannot feed the three of them at the same time. I did my own breastfeeding for only three months plus. She can’t do it. So, let us please support them. Yes, we brought so much by looking at what we brought. Within the next one month, the diapers will be gone”

“But I believe that the Lord will touch your hearts as those ones are getting off, you will be coming to help replace them. But above all, it’s a wonderful gift anybody can get from God. They make me so proud. When we go out, people look at them and say wonderful. They come with good health and favour. After I had my triplets my first year at the State House of Assembly, doors just opened and I wish them the same thing too. God, through these triplets will locate the family. Both of them are educated. The husband has HND, the wife has ND. So, they have paid their dues. The society should support them to stand.”

“There are many things to gain, by the grace of God, I know that for the period God wants me to be here, there would be so much difference and the next person that would take over from me as God takes me to my next level would not have any reason to do less than what we have put on ground. Any good Nigerian or Deltan can still make whatever provision for them as the care for the children will take a long time before they mature. They can be reached through these phone numbers: 07038627288 and 07037210484”

“Marakpor who assured that the state is moving into the economic sector said when the state has recreational centers, you have places where people can come out and relax. You would have people selling and places where children can relax. However, the recreational centers which are for adult and children would be healthy places where the family would benefit from, those working there would benefit from as well because it would take youths off the roads.

“When you carry God’s grace, people just do your bidding and they do not know why they do it. I would not sit here and tell you I work more than any other person, it is just his grace. It is the grace of God that would make people respect your order, it is the grace of God that would make people honor you”.

The couple, who were surprised about the development, said they wondered how Marakpor got wind of their plight. They said she was God-sent, believing that their triplets have opened doors of progress for them and would ever remain grateful for how God has used Mrakpor to remove their fear and restore their collective hope.  (Daily Independent)
