Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans (CANAN), has commended the nation on the peaceful conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections held last Saturday, March 28.

CANAN made this assertion through its Executive Director, Pastor Laolu Akande.

He said as a result of the peaceful conduct of the elections, it was obvious that the country was heading on a new path.

He said: “We are delighted at the peaceful conclusion of the Nigerian presidential election with the formal announcement by INEC.”

“CANAN and several other US-based groups had embarked on a month long prayer session crying out to the Lord to impose His will on Nigeria. We asked Him to chose for the nation and we believe He has done it.

“We congratulate the President-elect, General Muhamodu Buhari and the Vice President-elect, Pastor Yemi Osinbajo. CANAN is confident that the duo will take the mandate of the Nigerian people with a sense of responsibility and fear of God.

“The Buhari-Osinbajo ticket campaigned and won on the platform of change. We pray that the change would be delivered by the grace of God. We commend General Buhari and Pastor Osinbajo for their determination, resolve and exemplary characters which has now been validated by Nigerians,’ Pastor Akande said.

According to him, the duo of Buhari-Osinbajo determination will be surely tested by the enormous challenges ahead of the incoming administration and they have ‘our prayers, support and good wishes’.

The group also congratulated the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan for his statesmanship conduct by conceding defeat to the incoming President Buhari.

That action by Dr. Jonathan according to CANAN deserves the praise of all people of goodwill, and has secured the smooth transition of power in the next couple months.
