The Armed Forces of Nigeria says they will continue to modify their plans from tactical level to super camp arrangement from other forms of operation with significant successes in the fight against insurgency across the country.

The Co-ordinator Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche stated this in Abuja in a Voice of Nigeria’s Current Affairs Program, “IN THE NEWS”.

According to him, the military is dynamic in its plans which are in consonance to the directive given to them by the Commander in chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammad Buhari through the Minister of Defence to the Military High Command down to troops in the field that they should do more to keep hope alive security-wise in the country.

Major General Enenche noted that through changing of air interdictions and other various forms of operations, they are targeting the centre of gravity of the enemies in the country.

However, he noted that the cause of challenges in collaboration with the locals is that after the bombardment, the locals would hail and clap for the troops but just before the troops come back, they would see Implosive Explosive Device, IED, planted in the same place, “Who planted it?” he asked.

According to him, there is hope as the military has put momentum.

“Intelligence is an issue, if the military could get intelligence required from the local population especially in the North East, the insurgency would be a thing of the past adding that bandits have informants that love money more than the national interest as the conflict economy has blindfolded them”.

According to him, the civil populace should be part of security architecture for security is for everybody not just for the military.

He added that areas the insurgents were making it difficult for the people are now accessible due to strategies put in place and new ways of penetrating their enclaves.

“Increasing air bombardment by the Air Force, having new equipment by the Army amongst others are some of the strategies put in place to restore lasting peace in the country,” he stated.

Major General Enenche commended the efforts of the State Executives, political leaders, and local heads for their co-operations with the military, which are achieving positive results in curbing insurgency, especially in the North East.

He said the military was making sacrifices in protecting Nigerians so that they could sleep with their two eyes closed.

“Technology is uppermost in order of priority. That issue of getting the accurate location of the enemies, we are applying a high level of technology has helped,”

“Locating devices both in the North East and North West give specific identifications, particularly people carrying arms,”  he said.

He mentioned that the Armed Forces of Nigeria do get immediate support from Lake Chad, Multinational Joint Task Force, US, UK, Jordan among others are contributing in various ways to encounter terrorists/ISWAP in the country.

According to him, insurgency strives on propaganda, the military also needs to be ahead of the enemies of the nation by encouraging the troops and giving hope to the public.   (VON)
