Members of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 Elections have met with outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari as part of efforts to consolidate on the peace that has subsisted in the country during and after last weekend’s presidential election.
They met separately with both statesmen in Abuja after President Jonathan conceded defeat in a phone call to retired General Buhari.
The delegation, led by the Committee’s Chairman, former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (rtd.), included former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (rtd.); Aliko Dangote; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; and Primate of the Anglican Church (Nigerian Communion), Nicholas Okoh.
News Express reports that the National Peace Committee brokered a peace deal between Buhari and Jonathan ahead of the election and got them to sign the dotted lines.
