The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, Umanah Okon Umanah yesterday led his supporters on a protest to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Uyo, calling for “outright cancellation” of the Saturday general elections in the state.
Umanah, who was citing “non availability of result sheets” and “INEC collating officers not visible” at various polling units across the state, alleged that “no elections took place in any part of Akwa Ibom State last Saturday.”
He said, “I have sent a protest letter to the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega in Abuja with proved evidence. No further announcements of the elections result in Akwa Ibom will be declared by INEC, until our grievances are favourably addressed by the INEC chairman.”
He, however, asked his protesting supporters to “go back home peacefully and await the outcome of my protest letter to the INEC.”
