Following speculations that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Kaduna State may impose curfew on or before election day in order to rig the forthcoming election, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has said his supporters will defy the curfew if imposed.
According to him, nobody has the right to restrict their movement or impose a curfew just like that because doing so is against the fundamental human rights of the citizens.
El-Rufai, who was addressing newsmen shortly after holding a stakeholders meeting with all party contestants in the state, warned that they are not afraid of anybody who may want to intimidate them.
His words: “We will defy any curfew imposed in the state because nobody can intimidate us. We are aware that they are planning to impose curfew on election day so as to rig the election. We don’t care who you are and we can’t be intimidated by anybody.
“No IG or army commander can take away our rights. If they go ahead to impose the curfew on election day we will make sure we call on our supporters to defy the curfew and come out to defend their votes.”
The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister urged security agents, police and army not to allow themselves be used by the ruling party to deny the citizens the right to cast their votes.
He also described the call for voters to leave the polling units after casting their votes as illegal, saying no law bans them from staying at the polling units.
He urged his party supporters to remain at their polling units to defend their votes until closing hours.
“We will wait there and have our dinner after casting our votes until our leader Mohammad Buhari is declared winner of the election on March 29 God willing. We refuse to be intimidated and nobody can scare us,” he said.
Malam El-Rufai further added that President Jonathan is a complete failure and doesn’t care about the well being of the citizens.
He urged Nigerians to ensure they votes out PDP or else they will continue being slaves for the rest of their lives in their own country.
