The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Mr. Mohammed Danmallam, has tasked residents of the South-East to proffer useful security information to enable police perform optimally.
Danmallam, who is in-charge of Police Zone 13 comprising Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.
The AIG spoke on the sidelines of security preparedness for a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration within the three states.
According to him, intelligence led policing is the key to modern security and ensuing peace in any given environment.
“You only get intelligence through obtaining credible and vital information which would lead in nipping crime in bud. So, as such we are seeking cooperation with the residents of the states under me and in extension the whole of South-East on timely and accurate information on criminals and criminal activities around their neighourhoods and communities.”
The AIG assured that with active cooperation and collaboration of the residents and by the grace of Almighty Allah the zone would continue to be the most peaceful in the country.
On security measures for the Sallah celebration, he said that the police had prepared very well for such a big celebration and public holidays.
Danmallam noted that each of the police commands under the zone had already issued operational guidelines and strategies for duty for the celebration to ensure safety and security of the good people of the zone.
“However we are working in close synergy with other sister security agencies such as the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, NSCDC, FRSC, DSS, NDLEA and others this holiday period.
“We are going to embark on stop-and-search duties but ensure free flow of traffic; intensive patrol and surveillance as well as other forms of visibility policing,” he added.
