Ahead of the 2021 Anambra State governorship election, a group of women under the aegis of Anambra Demands Soludo have called out former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, to join the race.
The women led by Mrs Ifeoma Ekwueme, widow of late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, said that Soludo has the capacity to source for new and indigenous ways to improve the quality of life of citizens and create jobs for the teeming unemployed population.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs Ekwueme recalled how Soludo’s intervention brought about the quick rehabilitation of the Ekwulobia-Ufuma-Umunze-Ibinta road.
According to her, the rehabilitation made movement of people and goods from the area easier and also increased economic activities.
While urging Anambra people to rise above party politics, pecuniary consideration, religion and actualise a decision that will make the children and grand-children to be proud of them, she said the women had resolved to take the campaign to all nooks and crannies of the state.
“We have agreed to reach out to Soludo to accept our request.
“As mothers, we are worried and concerned about the danger of massive migration of our children to Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries and the increasing disinterest of our young ones to stay back home and make a living.
“This is the challenge of post COVID-19 era and that is why we are picking on Soludo out of others aspiring to lead our state,” Mrs. Ekwueme said.
The women came from the 16 communities in Orumba sub-clan of the state.
