Constituents laud Uwajumogu over effective representation, stewardship

The people of Ihitte-Uboma State constituency in Imo State, have commended their representative in the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu for quality representation and stewardship within four years, while advocating for more support to enable him do more.

In a statement signed by the by the Ihitte-Uboma Development Coalition and made available to the media by its spokesperson, Chief Ugwu Osuagwu, lauded Uwajumogu for modernizing the area with many social amenities that have direct bearing on the populace.

He added that with the level of development in the area, Ihitte-Uboma is now massively shedding, its old and rural epaulets to now Urban and modern signatures.

The statement said Uwajumogu, apart from giving regular account of his stewardship, through constituency briefings and town hall meetings, had not looked back in the provisions of the needed social amenities, incentives and programmes needed for the development of the area.

Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, whom he said had gone through various political tutelage to become one of Nigeria’s best Speakers ever, according to the statement, had been at the forefront of the fight against the aged-long neglect and the abandonment of the area by previous governments, as well as lead the fight against youth and women employment in his constituency through the provision of soft loans and facilitation of employment for most of the indigenes from the area in government establishments and in his own businesses.

“Aside from giant strides in physical infrastructure, Uwajumogu has displayed a high sense of service and tolerance in political development within and outside the local government area”.

“When he switched political affiliations from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC), most people who did not buy into the new party idea at that time, can still attest to the level of political tolerance exhibited by the Speaker in ensuring that all were carried along, devoid of any discrimination in the scheme of things, before they saw reasons to join him in the new party for the overall development of the area,” he said.

He enumerated various projects executed or attracted by the Speaker to his constituency (Ihitte-Uboma) to include; the construction of 10 new schools in each of the electoral ward of that make up the area, renovation of dilapidated structures in the area such as, schools and health centres, provision of potable drinking water through the sinking of about 10 solar-powered water boreholes, procurement and distribution of about 15 Transformers to various communities, electric cables and poles, including monetary grants of about N1.5million to over ten communities in the area to enable them energize the Transformer, as well as embark on any developmental needs in their local communities.

Chief Osuagwu, noted that the rural road initiative of the Speaker in the area has encouraged the living standards of his constituents, with the construction of over 35kilometers of asphalted roads in the area, with some of them, having direct support and funding from him, while the attraction of the Imo State College of Education (Technical), market stalls to boost the economy of the area, as well as the beautification of some of the hinterlands in the area with solar-powered street lights have made Ihitte-uboma, one of the fastest developing council area in the state.

He further maintained that the attraction of the ultra-modern 100 bed space General Hospital and the introduction of free medical programmes designed to identify and treat indigenes on medical related issues to increase life expectancy, scholarships to deserving indigenes of the area and the empowerment programmes for the women and youths to start up businesses for independent living, were some of the landmark achievements that have direct impacts on the human capital development of the people.

The Ihitte-Uboma Development Coalition added that the life-changing laws and motions, such as the free and qualitative education law spearheaded by Uwajumogu as the presiding officer of the state legislature, has afforded the Ihitte-Uboma people the opportunity of furthering their career up to the tertiary level without hitches.

He added that his heart of human kindness, open door policy and genuine love for Ihitte-Uboma has culminated in the introduction of football competitions to the area which further attracted high-flying stars in the sector, such as the football legend, Kanu Nwankwo, amongst others.
