Chief Hycienth Ngwu, a former South-East Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration had been a great blessing to the people of the South-East.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 recognised the outcome of June 12, 1993, Presidential Election and declared June 12 as a national Democracy Day.

Ngwu told News Express in Enugu on Friday that Nigerians should celebrate the Democracy Day with gratitude to God and deep reflection especially as Buhari had delivered practical infrastructural democratic dividends to the South-East.

The APC chieftain, who commended Nigerians for their resilience in keeping democracy, noted that the South-East had not had it good within the 21 years of uninterrupted democracy like in the Buhari’s administration.

According to him, President Buhari has kept faith and action with all his major presidential promises to the zone.

“To start with, President Muhammadu Buhari within few months in office, in a military precision manner, completed the Zik’s Mausoleum, which had been abandoned by successive administration for 14 years.

“Our major roads especially the dual carriage highways of Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressways are highly motorable and there is daily work on the two roads to ensure it speedy completion.

“The people of the South-East and South-South can now travel without getting their vehicles damaged and visiting mechanics after plying these roads.

“Previously for two successive administration these major roads were abandoned and no attention given to them,” he said.

Ngwu said that work had been on top gear at the 2nd Niger Bridge, which had previously been a reference point of failed presidential campaign promises to the people of the South-East and South-South since 1999.

He said: “Today, the 2nd Niger Bridge that is a critical infrastructure is over 48 per cent compete; thus the total piling work for the bridge has been completed and the approach roads are being constructed.

“This is a bridge used as political gimmick against the people of the zone for over 15 year running.

“We are hopeful that shortly before the winding down of Buhari’s administration the bridge will be inaugurated.”

The APC chieftain thanked President Buhari for the quick intervention in rehabilitating Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to international air and safety standard within few months the leaders of the zone met with him on its deterioration.

“Today, we have world class standard international dual-purpose airport; with first class safety equipment install in it – which is partially ready for re-inauguration.

“While the Owerri International Cargo Airport has been installed with state-of-the-art aviation and navigational facilities as well by the Federal Government in Buhari’s administration,” he added.

Ngwu said that President Buhari had continued to appoint people of the zone in various appointive positions; which stands as a clear testimony against the allegation of South-East political marginalsation.

“Within this administration, there had been some other inner Federal roads completed, healthcare facilities enhanced and more power transmission projects built in the zone.

“On security, the Federal Government has provided more mobile police units across the states in the zone as well as providing one additional police zone command among others,” he said.

The APC chieftain, however, urged the Federal Government to take concerted action against the menace of foreign herdsmen moving around the country and terrorism peaceful Nigerian communities.
