‘Mr Grassroots’, others honoured in Lagos

Friday, October 26, 2018 will be remembered for a long time by the many people who thronged the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, to witness the Third Anniversary Lecture/Awards event organised by Great Achievers’ World magazine.

The event which had High Chief Akin Disu as chairman was spiced with a lecture titled, “Channelling organisational and individual achievements into national development: The challenges”. The guest speaker was Mr Olusegun Olarenwaju Adebayo, Publisher of Youthspring magazine.

One particular awardee who stood out during the awards segment of the night event was Hon. Barrister Etetim Onuk, Executive Chairman, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The LGA boss, who is popularly known as Mr Grassroots within political circles, and who attended the event with his entourage, was honoured for “bringing enduring peace and stability to the polity in his LGA and for setting the template for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.”

Other recipients of the awards in various categories were the Commissioner of Police Ogun State Command, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, Barr Mike Joe Ummonam, Aare Afe Babalola OFR, CON, SAN, Engr Arthur Osaretin Usiagwu, United Bank for Africa, Mr Sartomen Ehubiozor, and 14-year-old magazine columnist, Miss Rita Dominic Michael, whose plaque was presented to her by Mr Ray Ekpu, Chief Executive Officer, Newswatch Communications Limited.

In the executive category were Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR, Governor of Kano State, and Senator (Dr) Godswill Akpabio CON, both of whom were represented.

According to Ms Inemesit Ebu, Editor-In-Chief, Great Achievers World magazine, the annual award series is meant to recognise and honour citizens who have made considerable achievements in various fields of human endeavour as a means to encourage them and others to do more.
