One of Nigeria’s renowned clergymen, Mike Bamiloye, has taken a swipe at some popular Nigerian musicians who got their singing talents from the church but have now embraced secular music.
In a recent post on his social media handle, the 59-year-old Osun State-born film actor, producer, director and founder of Mount Zion Drama Ministry and father of three whose wife Gloria is in the same ministry with him, said:
“All of you gifted and talented in music, acting, instruments, whom the Lord raised up from inside the church to be useful for Him, but have abandoned the Lord who raised you, and have begun to sing for the clubs and the world, I plead with you to come back to your source. How can you receive a gift from the Lord and hand over to the devil?”
Ever since the popular TV dramatist threw this challenge, there has been an uneasy calm in the entertainment industry, particularly in the camps of popular secular performing musicians who had their origin from the church.
Name them – Sir Shina Peters, Terry G, Timaya, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy…
In fact, the list is a long one. You can add the ones you know.
