The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a consultative meeting with the leadership of the political parties for Saturday, Feb. 7, on the conduct of the 2015 general elections.

A statement signed by Mr Kayode Idowu, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, in Abuja on Friday said that the meeting was a follow up to Thursday’s meeting of the National Council of States (NCS).

Participants expected at the meeting, according to the statement, include the chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties, as well as the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of INEC.

“Thereafter, the Commission will address a press conference to brief the nation on its decision with regard to whether or not the general elections will hold as currently scheduled.”

The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had on Thursday, Feb. 5, briefed the National Council of States (NCS) on the preparedness of the commission to conduct the 2015 general elections.

The National Security Adviser (NSA) and Armed Services Chiefs also at the meeting, briefed the Council on current security situation in the country. (NAN)
