The hammer came down this evening at the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), resulting in the sack of over 100 staff over redundancy and lack of value in the establishment.

The bad news was conveyed by the chairman of the panel on re-organisation and rationalisation of the ABS, Chief Nnanyelugo Nwora Asika, while handing over the committee’s report to the Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, this evening.

News Express learnt that only 228 of the 392 staff of ABS are recommended for retention by the committee while 94 are recommended for redeployment by the Head of Civil Service to where they would add value and 13 for outright retirement for forgery of certificates and age.

Receiving the report on behalf of Governor Obi, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, assured the committee that the report would be implemented without fear or favour, disclosing that those recommended for sack stand sacked from the first of next month.

“The governor said what he is seeing in ABS is incongruous with standards everywhere in the world,” Uzodike said.

Speaking at the occasion, the Managing Director of ABS, Sir Oselloka Offor, thanked Governor Obi and Commissioner Uzodike for setting up the committee and the committee for doing a great job.

Other members of the committee include Chief John Agha, Chief John Enebeli, Prof. Kate Omenugha, and the secretary, Adebayo Ojeyinka, a member of staff of the State Ministry of Information.
