Another tragedy has hit Nigerian journalism following the death of veteran journalist, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, until his death The Sun Vice Chairman.

“Pastor Dimgba Igwe was this morning knocked down by a vehicle while jogging around his residence in the Okota area of Lagos,” The Sun Management announced this afternoon.

“Mr Igwe sustained a fatal injury and was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent surgical emergency,” a story in the online edition of The Sun added.

It said that “the Chairman of the Sun Publishing Limited Dr Orji Uzor Kalu was shocked by the incident and described the day as the darkest day in the history of the organisation.”

Aged 58, Dimgba Igwe was a co-founder of The Sun and served as Deputy MD/Deputy Editor-in-Chief to his bosom friend, Mike Awoyinfa, who fondly called him his twin even though they hailed from different ethnic groups.

Upon their retirement from The Sun, Igwe and Awoyinfa founded Entertainment Express in collaboration with some other media colleagues and continued to write their weekly columns in the popular Nigerian tabloid in addition to pursuing their other passion – interviewing and writing on successful business and political leaders.
