Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Youth Mobilisation, Mr. Chinedu Obidigwe, has called on opposition parties to join hands with Governor Willie Obiano to move the state forward and avoid protracted court cases which could be distractive.

He made the call at the Agu-Awka Government House during a solidarity visit to Governor Obiano with a team of youths from all divides to congratulate him on his victory at the governorship election petition tribunal which rounded off its sitting recently in Awka.

Obidigwe said that the attitude of not letting go and waiting for another opportunity after losing an election could slow down the wheel of development of the state. He added that politics should be like the game of football, where players shake hands with opponents at the end of the game and wish others well.

The youth leader urged the aggrieved parties to support the leadership of Obiano as it will be to the best interest of the state.

His words: “What we need now is moving forward so that our state can get to the level it is supposed to be. Obiano is a man of the people who likes to carry everybody along. He loves people being together and he is not a factionalised politician. The court judgement was the yearning of the people and everybody is happy.

“For those that lost the election, I don’t think it is the end of the road and I also don’t think it is the best option to go to the appeal court; rather, they should listen to the voice of the people, sheath their swords and allow the governor to work. We don’t want people going to court anymore and causing distractions; there will always be opportunities to contest elections. The desire of the youths is that they allow the governor to work and actualise the dreams of a greater tomorrow. There is no way he can concentrate and work with endless court cases. We don’t want court case and, as you can see, he has even extended a hand of fellowship to them to join him in moving the state forward.”

Governor Obiano thanked the youths for coming to show their support with pomp and pageantry. He promised to surpass their expectations of a better, safer and industrialised Anambra State for both the youths and future generations.

Chief Obiano stressed that the paramount concern of his government is security, which, according to him, is the only means of creating an enabling environment for investors who, in turn, will create job opportunities.

“It is people like you that make governance work,” the governor said. “Be a good ndi Anambra and carry our flag high everywhere you go. I thank you for coming to the Government House to express your joy over the victory won – it is a victory for ndi Anambra, not a victory for Obiano. I urge you to join hands in making a success of this government.”
