The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has suspended a former member of the House of Representatives and gubernatorial hopeful in the 2019 polls, Alhaji Moshood Mustapha.

The embattled aspirant, who has been linked with a defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was until recently the Special Adviser on Inter-Parliamentary Matters, Protocols and Special Duties to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

The APC chairman for Alanamu ward, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Jimoh and secretary, Mallam Abdulwasiu Kehinde, in a statement jointly issued and made available to newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital said Mustapha was suspended for disregarding the invitations of the party on the allegations of anti-party activities levelled against him.

Mustapha, popularly known as ‘MM’ within the political circles, has been a long-standing member of the Saraki political dynasty. His rumoured interest in the gubernatorial ticket led to his resignation as Saraki’s aide late last year, following apparent signals that his boss was not favourably disposed to his ambition.

Interestingly, his younger brother, Lukman, a banker and proprietor of a popular private radio station in Ilorin has also been linked with the same ticket on the PDP platform.

The statement noted that Mustapha failed to honour all the invitations and refused to communicate with the Party.

The motion for his suspension was said to have been moved by a former Majority Leader in the state House of Assembly, Kayode Omotose and was seconded AbdulWasiu Tetengi at an emergency meeting at Isale- Aluko, Ilorin.

The meeting was attended by APC stakeholders, elders, youths, women leaders, senatorial chairmen, zonal chairmen and zonal women leaders.

Efforts to get Mustapha’s reaction on the development were not successful as at the time of filing this report. Similarly, two of his known political associates could also not be reached as they had their phones switched off when calls were placed to their lines.
