Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has promised that with the rising revenue profile, his administration will assist local government councils in the state to lessen their salary burden.

Governor Okowa gave the assurance yesterday during the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the forthcoming local government elections at Oleh, Isoko South and Ozoro, Isoko North local government areas of the state.

The Governor at the well attended rallies, also, thanked those who lost in the primaries of the party when the candidates for the elections emerged for putting the party first before self.

The Governor while expressing concern about the plight of local council workers said: “We feel the pains of our brothers and sisters in the local government councils, we are happy that peace has returned to our state, this will lead to increase in revenue and with such, we will assist the councils to reduce their salary burdens.”

The Governor who disclosed that as a state, his administration is not owing workers, assured the workers at the local government councils that the situation will change for the better, observing that candidates of the party for the local government elections are tested men and women who will ensure that the right things are done for the people.

“In every election, it is not everybody who aspires that will emerge as candidate, I suffered the same fate in 1990 but, I rose up and supported the person who was chosen as the party's candidate, today, I am a Governor; those who lost in the primaries should not lose hope, they should continue to work for the party and always put the party first before self,” he said.

“Leaders of the party should know that this is democracy and we are going for elections, they should go to their different wards and galvanise votes because, nobody will write result anywhere and the number of votes from your area will show how popular you are,” he added.

At Ozoro, Okowa specifically commended the people for turning out in their large numbers for the campaign rally, stating that the crowd of party faithful was clear evidence that the PDP was strong in the area.

One of the chieftains of the party in the area, Dr. (Parm.) Nelson Ejakpovi, said Governor Okowa’s style of leadership has united the party and made it to be more progressive.

Leaders of the party in the areas, Senator Stella Omu, Senator James Manager, Dr Idodo-Umeh, Chief Dennis Etalokwu, Hon. Orezi Esievo, Chief Solomon Ogba, Hon. Ross Uredi, Comrade Ovuozorie Macaullay, Hon. Tim Owefere, among others, stated that Delta State belongs to the PDP and the party will emerge victorious in the January 6, 2018 local government elections.

Chairman of the party in the state, Barr. Kingsley Esiso while receiving decampees from the All Progressive Congress (APC) led by Hon. Ferguson Onwo, stated that the sincerity of Governor Okowa in managing the affairs of the state has increased the fortunes of the PDP.

At Oleh, flag was presented to the Chairmanship candidate of Isoko South local government area, Hon. Itiakpo Constantine while his counterpart in Isoko North local government area, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor was also presented with the PDP flag.

All the councillorship candidates were also, called out and presented to the people at the event which the chairman of the party in Isoko North local government area, Hon. Godwin Ogorugba used to list out projects executed by Governor Okowa’s administration in Isoko land.
