The Executive Chairman, Oshimili Local Government Council, Barr. Chuks   Obusom, has said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa does not tamper with local government allocations.

Obusom disclosed this when a team of journalists from Indigenous Correspondents Chapel led by comrade Barth Ozah visited him at the council Secretariat, Asaba.

The council boss said that on assumption of office, he discovered that some persons from across the Niger claimed to be indigenes of Oshimili South and occupied positions in government jobs, but he personally wrote to the government demanding that anyone with means of identification that does not have his signature should not be attended to.

According to him, his administration has built a revenue court for proper remittance of Internally Generating Revenue (IGR) to the council, purchased generator to power the Secretariat and grading of some roads in the territory.

Meanwhile, the over bloated work force which in the council is said to be responsible for the irregular payment of salaries. He explained that before his tenure the federal allocation to the council was between N250 million and N300 million, while the monthly wage bill was about N100 million, but today it is less than N120 million, out of which teachers’ salaries is N70 million. Council workers including political aides is N63 million. He added that they came up with a blueprint of biometric by clocking in and out because some of the workers were no longer in Asaba and some have gotten another job but still receiving salary from the local government.

“Besides, the allocation is not only meant for teachers and councils workers. The money is also meant for market women, maintaining and providing social amenities among others to the people,” Obusom said.
