Eight other members of staff of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, have been sacked for sundry offences.

Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Ezionye Eboh, explained that those affected were relieved of their jobs for allegedly committing offences ranging from forgery of results, stealing of money or books of the institution to doctoring of grades, amongst others.

The action is coming two months after 16 members of staff of the institution were shown the way out of the Polytechnic for allegedly gaining employment into the institution with fake West African Examination Council Certificates following the outcome of a staff verification exercise.

Eboh, during an interactive session with newsmen in his office in Aba, Thursday, said the institution’s management was working on some reports by various panels set up in the school.

“There are a number of panel reports before us which we are working on but realize that we did not come here to sack anybody. Yet it is important to note that this hallowed chamber has no hiding place for people who should not be here.

“We are looking at all corners to help us improve standards but we are not here to sack anybody. Yet we know that God will give us the grace to let those who have done wrong things know they have done wrong things and to apply appropriate disciplinary measures,” he said. Eboh, who was speaking on his activities since he assumed office two months ago, said he was on a mission to make the school work.

“We are here to institute a system that works. We are not looking at anybody’s face. We are encouraging our staff and students to do the right thing.

“The children here are ours and we must ensure delivery of the products for which they have come here,” he said.

According to him, the Polytechnic has put in place, a taskforce to ensure results of graduating students in Ordinary Diploma and National Diploma were reconciled on time to enable them to go for National Youth Service, while another committee to make lecturers release the students’ results on time has also been set up.

He said that institution would no longer condone selling of books in the class but through the bookshop which, in turn, pays the lecturers whose books were sold.

On improving Internally Generated Revenue of the institution, Eboh said that the institution has ensured blockade of all revenue leakages by mandating students to pay all their fees at the banks, adding that his administration was working hard to ensure the school realised expected revenues.
