The Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, Thursday said the bank has disbursed N2.3 billion to 110 persons in the country through its Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME) scheme.
He made the statement in Onitsha during the bank’s Customers’ Forum, saying that N400 million had already been repaid from the N2.2 billion loan given to customers earlier.
Okonkwo described the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, and his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, as gifts to Anambra, making allusion to their invaluable contributions to Fidelity Bank during their days as members of the Board of the bank.
He said that they were in Onitsha to appreciate the people and to know their needs because the commercial centre had played a key role in the progress of the bank.
The Fidelity Bank Managing Director while observing that Governor Obiano was an executive of the bank before becoming a governor stressed that any of the customers that failed to repay his loan would be legally challenged by the bank to any level.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the bank, Mr. Ernest Ebi, who tagged the forum, ‘The Thing Connecting With You’, said they came to Onitsha to connect with the people because of the significant role the city is playing in the development of the bank.
He said that Onitsha was chosen as a spot for the forum because of its strategic importance and indeed the South East, adding that it was also a way of thanking them for their support over the years.
The customer’s forum attracted personalities in the manufacturing industry including the Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in South East, Sir Azubuike Okafor; Chairman of GUO group, Chief Godwin Okeke, among others.
