Buhari disappoints supporters

President Muhammadu Buhari has disappointed his supporters who expected him to return home this weekend. Expectations of his return had been high following feelers from the Presidency that the President was about to return home.

Presidency and other top government officials have repeatedly claimed that Buhari “is hale and hearty” contrary to reports that he is sick and receiving treatment in London.

However, the Nigerian leader has made it clear that he would not return to the country until doctors are satisfied with his condition, a report today in Daily Trust said.

The paper said that Buhari in a letter addressed to Senate President Bukola Saraki extending his vacation said the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, would continue to act on his behalf till his arrival.

“The letter sighted by our correspondent was personally signed by the President and dated February 8, 2017,” the report said.

It quoted Buhari as saying in the letter: “Further to my letter dated, 18th January, 2017 in which I notified the Distinguished Senate of taking part of my annual leave.

“During my leave, I took the opportunity to have routine check-ups and consult my long standing doctors in London in the course of the routine examinations, certain test result, indicated the need for a course of medications and certain appointments have been scheduled for next week.

“I am therefore, notifying the Distinguished Senate, that I am extending my leave until the doctors are satisfied that certain factors are ruled out in the circumstances, the Vice President will continue to act on my behalf.”
