Plans by the Federal Government to build the capacity of prosecutors across the 36 states of the Federation on the modern techniques of drafting charges have reached an advanced stage.

The special training is expected to begin in the first week of March and be concluded in the last week of May this year. It is in line with the objectives of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to fast-track the prosecution of high profile cases, some of which will be handled at the state level and to stem corruption.

A press statement made available on Friday by Comrade Salihu Othman Isah, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, disclosed that the special training to be held at zonal level will kick-start in Yola, Adamawa State, for the North East zone on March 7-8, 2017.

The training schedule drawn out by the Special Assistant to the President on Research and Special Projects, Mr. Sylvester Imhanobe, shows that the training will be rounded up May 30-31, 2017 in Ibadan for the South West zone.

The other zones are as follows: North West (March 22-23) to be hosted in Kaduna State, North Central (April 4-5) in Jos, Plateau State, South East (April 22-23) in Enugu, Enugu State as well as South South (May 9-10) in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Isah hinted that the training is sequel to a proposal in this regard by the National Prosecution Coordination Committee (NPCC), in collaboration with the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Corruption (UNODC).

A letter of invitation to the Attorney Generals and Commissioners for Justice of the 36 states of the Federation to nominate participants to attend the training has been sent out by Imhanobe, who doubles as the Secretary of the NPCC.
