An obviously frustrated woman has committed suicide after she jumped off a bridge into a canal in the Oke-Afa area of Isolo, Lagos State.

According to reports, the woman, who looked disturbed, had walked casually on the bridge and before anyone could notice what was going on, she had jumped off the bridge into the canal which had claimed the lives of hundreds of people who fell into it during the bomb blast that shook the Ikeja Cantonment in January 2000.

Confirming the incident, Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said that his men responded to a distress call about the woman who deliberately jumped into the canal and that his men had brought out the corpse of the unidentified woman.

“A woman deliberately jumped off a bridge into a canal at Oke-Afa area of Isolo. The Ikotun Fire Station was on ground to try and rescue the woman but after searching for many hours, her body was retrieved,” he said. (TVC)
