Crisis engulfs Customs, 5 Deputy Comptrollers-General forced to resign

Barely weeks after retired Col. Hameed Alli assumed duty as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the agency has become engulfed in crisis.

It was not clear what the matter was but it was big enough to make all the five Deputy Comptrollers-General (DCGs) to throw in the towel yesterday.

DCGs A. J. Atte, T. A. Musa, I. M. Mera, A. C. Nwosu and A. A. Adewuyi met and thereafter issued a statement saying they had decided to voluntarily resign with immediate effect.

A reliable source close to the Customs Headquarters in Abuja told News Express last night that the veteran Customsmen had fundamental disagreements with the management style of Col. Alli, a non-career Customsman, and were forced to suddenly quit.

“Hopefully, an official statement will be issued tomorrow (Friday) morning from Nigeria Customs Service on current developments,” the source said.
