President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to partner with the Defence Industries Corporation to manufacture the light weapons it has designed.

President Muhammadu Buhari said this on Thursday after a presentation to him by the agency, led by its Vice Chairman, Professor Mohammed Haruna, at the Presidential Villa.

The President, who said that he was impressed by the achievements and inventions presented, also urged NASENI to do more to publicise its inventions for the benefit of Nigerians.

Apart from the light weapons and laboratory equipment, the agency also presented other inventions to the President including new energy-saving LED lamp products.

NASENI is a purpose built agency designed to conduct developmental work in the areas of manufacturing.

In August 2010, the agency said it had completed plans to establish centres of excellence and research on material science in nine universities in the Niger Delta region. (Channels TV)
