The management of University of Ibadan has commissioned two water tankers to ameliorate the water supply challenge being experienced in the halls of residence.
The event took place at the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole on Monday.
The Vice-Chancellor, in his address, thanked the Dean of Student Affairs for bringing about the idea. He stated that the commitment, zeal and passion of the university staff had made the actualisation of most projects on campus possible. He noted that the purchase of the tankers was a measure to improve the water supply on campus.
According to the VC, with the purchase of the tankers “the water problem will be a thing of the past.” He also mentioned that the university is engaging in a mutually beneficial partnership with the Oyo State government in the area of water supply to the campus. He then implored the hall wardens to manage and sustain the relationship with their students.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Akinola Alada, while thanking the university management, explained that the demand for water supply amongst the students was huge, adding that the bore-holes in the halls had been overused and could not meet the water demands of the students. “Now with the availability of the water tankers, students would be at peace,” he said.
Earlier, the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Keye Abiona, in his speech thanked and appreciated the management for the provision of the tankers. He noted that the water tankers would solve the problem of students’ recklessness during water scarcity.
Similarly, the President, Students Union Government, Mr. Victor Odesola, expressed delight at the purchase of the water tankers, saying it will bring relief to students. He also commended the VC for being sensitive and proactive to students’ plight.
The occasion was graced by hall wardens, supervisors and porters representative of the bursar, deputy registrar (Students) and members of the University Students Lodging Bureau (USLB)
