Delta State Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Builders (NIOB), Builder Moses Juwah, weekend, advised students to consider entrepreneurship as a better alternative to waiting for government job which might not come as expected.

Builder Juwah was speaking at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Delta State, when he led the State Executive of NIOB to the college to give orientation to the students of Department of Building Technology on the prospects and possibilities of becoming a builder.

He said students of Building Technology are preparing to become gold miners as there are wide prospects in becoming an expert in building designs and constructions.

He told the students, who gathered at the Faculty Hall of Technical Education in company of the Dean of Faculty, Alhaji Yinusa Adekola, that the prospects in building technology could make one become a millionaire overnight without much stress if the individual could tap into the enormous potentials in the profession.

According to him, “there are graduates of year 2000 who are still praying for jobs, if you are serious, you will be proud to be a builder. You can become an employer of labour, not a job seeker. You can seat at home and people will beg you to come and supervise projects for them.

“Entrepreneurs rule the world. In entrepreneurship, there is no room for failure. What is needed is the manpower and the will to do it. You have much to gain if you become a builder. Many graduates are wallowing in poverty because they have no ideas. Being a builder, the sky is your limit. Relying on government job will no help the economy of Nigeria.”

He said expert and professional builders are needed to stem the tide of recurrent building collapse which has become a recurrent decimal in major cities in the country.

Speaking on ‘Who is a Builder’, Vice Chairman of NIOB, Builder Izu Agafiene, decried the massive encroachment of other professionals into the building profession.

He said Estate Valuers, Town Planners and others have gained access into the building profession, thus turning the building profession into an all comers affair.

Dean of Faculty of Technical Education, Alhaji Yinusa Adekola, said students cannot excel in their chosen if they fail to learn from those in the field and know what’s in vogue.

“With this, there’s hope and there is future for you. This will make you an employer of labour, not a job seeker,” he added.
