Another set of 234 women and children were yesterday rescued through the Kawuri and Konduga end of Sambisa Forest in Borno State, North-East Nigeria, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, announced minutes ago.

“They have been evacuated to join others at the place of ongoing screening. This set in addition to the previous individuals earlier rescued during the ongoing operation in the area,” Olukolade said in a statement issued in Abuja.

“The assault on the forest is continuing from various fronts and efforts are concentrated on rescuing hostages of civilians and destroying all terrorists’ camps and facilities in the forest,” he added.

News Express reports that troops of the 7 Division Nigerian Army had on Tuesday rescued 293 women and girls from Sambisa Forest, following it up with the rescue of more captives on Wednesday. “They have been evacuated to a safety zone for further processing,” Acting Army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman said.
