Over a thousand youths and more than 300 women from different organisations on Wednesday in Enerhen community of Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, staged a rally in support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.

The rally, which was organised by the Dynamic Youth for Change (DYC), saw youths and women singing and dancing to the praises of the PDP candidate. They called on others to cast their votes for him, describing him as a visionary leader who is committed to the development of the state and well being of all Deltans.

Led by its coordinator, Prince Otemu, and other executive members of DYC such as Jude Agbabule, Okotie Humphrey and Odudu Endurance, the group charged the large crowd of supporters to ensure that they get their PVCs and vote for the PDP candidates from top to bottom.

Addressing the gathering, which was attended by top chieftains of the PDP and members of the Contact Committee of the State PDP Campaign Organisation, Otemu said: “We believe in the leadership of Okowa; we believe his plan of action for Delta State. And that is why we are here to express our total support for him and to assure him that the over 12,000 votes in Enerhen Community will be 100 percent for him and all other PDP candidates in this election.

“We, however, want to say that he should not forget Enerhen community when he gets to Government House. He has the experience, he has the charisma, he has the reach to make things happen. We are for the PDP, we are for President Goodluck Jonathan, we are for Dr Okowa and all other PDP candidates in this election.”

In his response, Capt. (Dr.) Pius Sinebe, who led party chieftains to the rally, appreciated the efforts of DYC in mobilising such a huge crowd of youths, women, different groups and even traditional title holders for what he described as “a very worthy cause.” He also expressed regret at the inability of Dr. Okowa to be present and the Chairman of the Contact Committee, who is also the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN.

Hear Sinebe: “We are very happy to see this large crowd of youths and different women groups and even our elders from the nooks and crannies of Uvwie local government area. Permit me to apologise for the inability of our principal, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to make it to this place. He actually wanted to be here in person. Same for the Chairman of the Contact Committee, His Excellency Prof Amos Utuama, SAN, our Deputy Governor, who has sent his support to you.

“We are happy because you have chosen to support a good cause. Your promise to deliver over 12,000 votes in Enerhen Community for the PDP is very well noted and we urge you to please tell more people. Our Principal, Dr Okowa, will not fail you; he will not fail Deltans. He is a man of his words and has the whole of the state at heart. His slogan is Prosperity for all Deltans. No exception. And he will do it.

“Please go and get your PVCs and on the day of election vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and all the PDP candidates for National Assembly and then vote for Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and all the House of Assembly candidates of the PDP.”

The meeting was attended by Chief (Sir) Tom Amioku, Rt. Hon. Martins Okonta, former Speaker; and Chief Henry Olori.
